About a year and a half ago, I started making a newsletter for the Belgian organization COCD (Center for the Development of Creative Thinking), were I was a partner at the time.
The idea behind it was to make short, hands-on creative thinking techniques available to a larger audience so people could learn and experience creative thinking for themselves. 18 months later the Creativitips newsletter had about 3.000 subscribers. In itself that's not too spectacular, but anyone involved in email marketing will go WOW if you look at the average open rate of 51% and click-through rate of over 64%.
That is downright spectacular and it proved that people are eager to discover and work with fast, do-able hints and tricks when it come to generating ideas or seeing things from a different angle.
There were two things I didn't like about them:
a) they were only in Dutch, gravely diminishing the chances of them being picked up by a larger audience, and
b) they were in written language only and lacked visual appeal
It took some experimenting with camera's, silly and time consuming chroma key recordings and loads of close-but-no-cigar attempts, but I think we've nailed it now. This is a screenshot of the new and improved 'Creativitips' at the dawn of their second life, as 'Nudges' in English and fully animated.
They will gradually cocoon from written Dutch to animated English. One at a time. So by all means, see them, use them, spread them, love them, hate them… they are yours to with as you please.
