My 2010 goals Mindmap.

When I started pinching the ostrich in 2009, I drew my 2009 goals mindmap to pour all my thoughts and ambitions in. That works so much better than just making a to do list. (if you haven't seen my 2009 results yet, here's your chance)

Maybe that's the big difference between molding your plans in a to-do list vs a mindmap. The former is a…well a…to-do list, the latter is a to-do list with meaning, which is the one crucial thing that is all too often missing from any given day.

And so (drum roll) here's the 2010 mindmap:

Learn Anything:

    •    Between the end of January and October, I am relishing all new insights my cognitive psychology studies at the OU London have to offer. My +70% marks will call for a little celebration.
    •    Throughout the year I will be making a bullet proof case that will allow me to be admitted at the MSc in Creative Problem Solving studies at the State University of New York in Buffalo in 2011.
    •    Just before my 39th birthday I will pass my Certified Professional Facilitator test at IAF
    •    and add a De Bono 6 thinking hats certification to the list of accreditations.

Connect to anyone:

    •    Since 2010 the year of Psychology, at least it is for me, I will be looking back on 4 mind-stretching challenges entrusted to me by inspiring en passionate professionals. The question I ask them is always the same one: Give me an assignment that will allow me to experience, feel and understand why it is you do what you do. Which isn't really a question, but you get the point.

    •    2010 will surprise me with the shape and size of the 2009, Q4 art challenge. In short, this challenge is an ongoing one, based on Geerdine Kuijper's challenge and National Geographic's Genographic project. More to come later.

Overcome anything:

    •    Two fears to overcome this year, while dealing with the "aftermath" of last year's. Last year I started wearing my dreaded braces, but that was just a preparation for this summer's corrective jaw surgery.
    •    Secondly there is the fear of Public Humiliation I am still working on. Can't really say anything about it at the moment other then that the result of how I am taking this fear head on, will be made public in April. For practical reasons it has to wait until then. Patience, my friends, patience.

    •    The two fresh fears to face this year are a stupid little phobia I've been having since forever, which won't be anything but a funny memory by the end of this summer.
    •    And there's an interesting case of fear of rejection I will have dealt with by the end of December.

Create my own reality:

   •    Physically I have a very simple goal this year: keep the belly at 80 cm/31,5 inches circumference. Of course, keeping it there would imply that it's already there. Nope, it isn't. It's actually: 95 cm/37,5 inches. So in this very simple goal all the lifestyle changes that are needed to get and keep me there, lie hidden.
    •    And I'd like to try something entirely new. A sport, some kind of physical activity I haven't enjoyed yet. Nothing concrete just yet, but I'm sure opportunity will present itself.
    •    As far as shaping my mind is concerned: 2010 is my speedreading 1.000 words per minute and remember 500 random items memory challenge year.
    •    Which in turn is closely related to visualization techniques. In order to keep my focus were I need it, I will be incorporating visualization exercises to see what they can bring to the table. That would be goal visualization in different form: from mood board to forms of meditation.
    •    This year I will finally make that one move I have been postponing for sooo long. Establishing my own company. Which means creating a completely new approach to how I do business, what kind of services I provide, the setting in which I wish to provide them, etc etc. I cannot tell you how much energy and positive excitement this is giving me.
Furthermore this step is already helping me to take responsibility for my own reality in entirely different ways: it ties up some of the few loose ends from the 2009 goals, just to name one thing. But the most important one of all: it allows Pinching the Ostrich to go to a higher level, because it invites me to think and act on a higher level.

Inspire anyone

    •    Have you noticed? Last year, I formulated the wish to inspire 10.000 people in 5 years to try and pinch an ostrich of their own. This year I upped that number to 1.000.000 people. Is that realistic? Why not? And even if it isn't, it does something amazingly powerful to every single step of the journey. It forces me to rethink and rebuild everything I do. And in doing so, this new goal may just become one of the most thrilling self-fulfilling prophecies imaginable.
    •    For instance, in 2010 I will no longer just be Pinching the Ostrich, I will be Nudging and Kicking it as well. Sound vague, doesn't it.
Well, it is anything but. And you will see what it means the moment the new website launches. Just typing this makes me giddy as a schoolboy. It does. And in 2010 I wish you an inner smile as bright as the one warming me up inside right now.

So, what do you think? Too little, too much? Doesn't really matter either way. I have one big advantage over last year: I have momentum now. Last year when the journey began, I didn't.

What that means is I have the honest and wholeheartedly felt feeling that last year was mainly one of getting things done. This year is far more about making this happen. (Biiiig smile)

Take care,
Karl

I love how you've gone bigger, using the momentum of what you've learned so far.
You've inspired me quite a bit. Is it possible to calculate the exponential inspiration factor?
