Halfway through the Q2 challenge, given to me by Cynthia Morris, (Create a painting that you love) I thought it would be appropriate to have a couple of attempts online. Just to let you know that I'm on it.
What struck me so far is this: beforehand I was worried about how well/bad I would do. But once I'm in the process, I'm in the process…period. I don't care about what anyone thinks about it. It's just not on the radar. Time and space just seem to disappear. I think Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi would call this "flow".
And yesterday I read a study in the Creativity Research Journal that experiencing art has a positive impact on the big five. That's not a South African big game hunter thing, but the personality traits: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (emotional stability)
This is quite the eye-opener for me. Basically, engaging in or experiencing art, has been empirically proven to influence your personality. Whether or not this means it is reasonable to assume that there is a cross pollination with a more creative mindset, I cannot tell at this point. But personality and creativity are joined at the hip. That much we do know.
OK, enough rambling, here are a few masterpieces ☺
