I almost forgot. The Artist's way comes with a contract. Before enmbarking on the 12 week course, you are to sign a contract that is printed in the book. See it as a kind of formal promise to yourself and a public statement at the same time, making yourself a little more accountable. Not a bad idea as such. So here's mine:

I, Karl Raats, understand that I am undertaking an intensive, guided encounter with my own creativity. I commit myself to the twelve-week duration of the course. I, Karl Raats, commit to weelky reading, daily morning pages, a weekly artist date, and the fulfillment of each week's tasks.

I, Karl Raats, further understand that this course will raise issues and emotions for me to deal with. I, Karl Raats, commit myself to excellent self-care - adequate sleep, diet, exercise, and pampering - for the duration of the course.

That last sentence about excellent self-care is something I will get back to you about shortly. If you're going to ask yourself to give it your all for 5 years on end, you had better take care of yourself indeed.
